Ignatian Wisdom #12: Suspice

November 1, 2011

The Suspice or “Take, Lord, and Receive” Prayer is one of the most well known Ignatian prayers. It captures the essence of one of the closing meditations in the Spiritual Exercises called the Contemplation for Learning to Love Like God: Full discipleship with Christ, full understanding that life is gift given to us by God, and full love of God by returning all that we have to God, so we may do what God asks of us.

Thanks to Mike Hayes for sharing this beautiful song and video version of this prayer! I am very proud to call Mike a friend, and I am even more proud of the Sapientia Award he received at Fordham University for his service to the church in the realm of young adult ministry.

Becky is an Ignatian-trained spiritual director, retreat facilitator, and writer. She is the author of the Busy Lives and Restless Souls (March 2017, Loyola Press) and The Inner Chapel (April 2020, Loyola Press). She helps others create space to connect faith and everyday life through facilitating retreats and days of reflection, through writing, and through spiritual direction. With nearly twenty years of ministry experience within the Catholic Church, Becky seeks to help others discover God at work in the every day moments of people’s lives by utilizing St. Ignatius’ Spiritual Exercises and the many gifts that our Catholic faith and Ignatian Spirituality provide.
