The Setting Out

October 5, 2009

This is the setting out.

The leaving of everything behind.

Leaving the social milieu.
The preconceptions.
The definitions.
The language.
The narrowed field of vision.
The expectations.

No longer expecting relationships, memories, words, or letters to mean what they used to mean.

To be, in a word: Open.

~Rabbi Lawrence Kushner

And so I begin my journey. My journey of seeing the sacred in all things, seeing God in all things. For as my older brother said, “It is everywhere you look.”

Becky is an Ignatian-trained spiritual director, retreat facilitator, and writer. She is the author of the Busy Lives and Restless Souls (March 2017, Loyola Press) and The Inner Chapel (April 2020, Loyola Press). She helps others create space to connect faith and everyday life through facilitating retreats and days of reflection, through writing, and through spiritual direction. With nearly twenty years of ministry experience within the Catholic Church, Becky seeks to help others discover God at work in the every day moments of people’s lives by utilizing St. Ignatius’ Spiritual Exercises and the many gifts that our Catholic faith and Ignatian Spirituality provide.

I am delighted to see you start this journey, darling Becky. Many don’t appreciate how hard it is to make yourself vulnerable in this way and to stay committed to the belief that your title captures so well. I can’t wait to see how God uses your gifts in this way!
